FANS’ FURY AS WALES CHASE GIGGS
RYAN GIGGS has been interviewed by Wales but faces a backlash from unhappy supporters at his potential appointment.
FAW chief Jonathan Ford has interviewed bookies favourite Giggs (right), Craig Bellamy, Chris Coleman’s assistant Osian Roberts and Mark Bowen. Manchester United legend Giggs, 44, made 64 appearances for his country from 1991-2007.
But after making his debut against Germany in 1991, he did not play a friendly until Wales’ first match at the Millennium Stadium in 2000.
His perceived willingness to prioritise United over Wales caused resentment and he upset fans again when he was a TV pundit for England’s game against Brazil on the night Wales hosted Panama in November. One fan said: “Giggs never had Wales truly in his heart. He was on the TV watching England, he should be watching Wales instead.”
