KANE’S A TRUE VINTAGE LIKE SHERI

Two goals for Harry and he’ll pass Teddy’s Spurs tally

ANOTHER WEEK, another record there for the taking.

Asked about the latest milestone in Harry Kane’s sights, Mauricio Pochettino welcomed the chance to gush about the goal poacher ripping up the record books in a Tottenham shirt. Kane has already beaten Alan Shearer’s calendar-year record for Premier League goals with 39. He already has two successive Golden Boots – the perfect response to critics who said he’d be a one-season wonder. Now the legendary Teddy Sheringham (above) is in the England striker’s sights. Two goals for Kane against Everton today would take his tally of Premier League goals for Tottenham past Sheri’s 97. Kane certainly has form – he has scored a brace in each of his last two Premier League appearances against Everton. It would also fuel the widely-held belief that a battle is looming in the summer for a marksman firmly established as one of the finest in Europe, with Real Madrid heading the chase to sign him.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy signalled his firm intention to win that fight on Thursday when he made it clear that “no player will leave the club who we intend to keep.”

And Pochettino underlined his chairman’s words.

“That is normal.” said the Argentinian. “No-one wants to sell their best players. Daniel is the same, he wants to win like us.

“For me it is normal situation because I don’t think anyone expected Daniel Levy to say we are going to sell.”

When it was suggested that Levy could be made to eat his words if Real come up with an offer even bigger than the £200million with which PSG pinched Brazilian superstar Neymar from Barcelona, Poch was unruffled.

“I trust in Daniel,” he added. “If he told you and the fans that we won’t be selling, it is because he will deliver on that promise.”

Manager and chairman were left frustrated earlier this month, however, when Ross Barkley chose to move to Chelsea instead of Spurs from Everton.

The north Londoners put a brave face on the move, suggesting they were waiting for better players to become available in the summer.

The truth, though, is that at £15million 24-year-old England midfielder Barkley is exactly the kind of buy that Spurs need to strengthen their squad as they try to keep pace with bigger clubs.

Chelsea had got wind of their intentions and, after a false start at the end of August, offered higher wages this time around to secure Barkley’s signature.

“A player has a lot of people who look after him.” said Pochettino. “When there is a lot of interest, maybe someone in the environment of the player is going to talk. “Maybe if you make an offer, maybe this offer is used to talk with another club.

“That is the problem – some- times it is difficult to stop all the rumours. It has made our job so difficult. It is frustrating for the club and of course for myself too because you cannot sign the player that you want.

“But that this is football and we cannot change that.”

Everton have won only one of their last 43 Premier League away games against one of the ‘Big Six’ (1-0 at Man Utd in December 2013) – drawing 15 and losing 27.

Having not lost any of their first six Premier League games under Sam Allardyce (W3 D3), the Toffees have now lost their last two.

Just 29.6 per cent of Everton’s Premier League points this season have come away from home (8/27), the lowest ratio in the division.

After losing their first home Premier League game at Wembley vs Chelsea, Spurs are unbeaten in their last 10 at the ground in the competition (W6 D4).

Harry Kane has scored a brace in each of his last two Premier League appearances against Everton. Only six players have ever scored two or more goals in three consecutive Premier League appearances against a specific opponent.

Kane is also just one goal away from equalling Teddy Sheringham (97) as Tottenham’s highest-ever scorer in the Premier League (currently 96).

Son Heung-min could become just the second Spurs player to score in five consecutive home Premier League games after Jermain Defoe, who did so between November and December 2004.
