Henderson in warning over Altior

- BY DAVID YATES

NICKY HENDERSON last night warned punters it’s too early to tell if star chaser Altior’s wind op has been a success.

The Champion Chase even-money favourite made a noise before his intended return to action in the Tingle Creek at Sandown five weeks ago — and went under the knife.

Henderson (left) reports the eight-year-old in “superb” order and “ready to start stepping up” his work on the gallops.

But only when Altior is put through his faster paces will the trainer know whether the surgery has achieved its goal.

“He hasn’t done any fast work yet — you wouldn’t have heard a squeak out of him on what he’s been doing — so I can’t tell,” admitted Henderson.

“He’s ready to start stepping it up, but it wouldn’t worry me to go straight to Cheltenham with a racecourse gallop along the way.”
