Cancer liar in £55k con on lover’s family
A CONMAN tricked his girlfriend’s family out of £55,000 with lies that he had cancer and his mother had died.
Sam Alexander, 24, who also claimed to have lost a son, blew most of the money on gambling.
Jodie Nicholson wept in court as she told how Alexander charmed her then took control of her money.
He then got her parents Simon and Janice Gates to hand over savings, Canterbury crown court heard.
Jailing Alexander, of Margate, for four years, the judge told him: “They treated you with kindness which you repaid with cruel dishonesty.”
Mr Gates said Alexander, who admitted theft and fraud, was “capable of the most despicable acts, all without remorse”.
