FA probes Rodriguez ‘race slur’

- BY JAMES NURSEY

GAETAN BONG is demanding action against Jay Rodriguez over an alleged racist comment.

But the West Brom and England striker denies any wrongdoing in the 2-0 home win over Brighton.

The FA will look into the incident after reading referee Martin Atkinson’s report. Craig Dawson had just headed the Baggies’ second goal when Bong and Rodriguez clashed near the touchline.

TV pictures show Rodriguez recoiling and holding his nose. Cameroon defender Bong then alerted the officials.

Atkinson did not take any action on the pitch, but consulted fourth official Tony Harrington.

Bong tweeted: “Some words should not be said on a football field and specially not by players. Rodriguez words are unforgivable for the man I am.”

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton, who left the field talking to Bong, said: “I saw the referee afterwards, as has Gaetan. That is the correct procedure and it will go through to the FA to deal with.”
