Whirlpool told to act on 1m dodgy dryers

FEARS Whirlpool dryer fire WHIRLPOOL has been told to take urgent action to remove the danger posed by a million defective tumble dryers.

The House of Commons Business, Energy and Industr ial Strategy Committee criticised the Government for being “painfully slow” in improving a white goods product recall system.

Its report, out today, calls it “fragmented and poorly resourced”.

There are still more than a million Whirlpool dryers in homes in the UK with a defect which has led to at least 750 fires since 2004.

Rachel Reeves MP, said: “Whirlpool ’ s woeful response to the defect in its tumble dryers has caused huge worry to people with these appliances in their homes.”
