Agony of girl kept in May’s hospital A&E
VISIT PM recognised crisis A SUICIDAL teenage girl who could not be found a bed in a mental health unit spent almost a week in A&E at the hospital visited by Theresa May last week.
The girl, 16, who is autistic, tried to kill herself four times in Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey, where the Prime Minister chose to speak on the NHS crisis.
The girl’s father said: “She isn’t getting the proper care she needs. Her condition is deteriorating.
“A hospital stay for someone with autism is rarely likely to have a good effect. It’s completely the wrong place for someone suffering a mental illness.”
A King’s Fund thinktank report shows income for mental health trusts rose less than 2.5% in 2017, compared with over 6% for acute and specialist trusts.
