Statins ‘safe for children’

-

STATINS are safe for children as young as 10, according to experts.

The British Heart Foundation researched the safety of the drugs for boys and girls with an inherited risk of high cholesterol.

GPs were recently told they should prescribe the pills to such youngsters to reduce the risk of a midlife heart attack or stroke.

Lead author Professor Steve Humphries, of University College London, said: “These findings are incredibly reassuring.”
