Celebs train like the Specials to go on the beat

-

COP a load of this! Channel 4 is going to get a group of celebrities to train to work on the front line of British policing.

Famous & Fighting Crime will give well-known rookies the chance to see what it’s really like to be on the sharp end of the thin blue line.

The celebs, who are yet to be chosen, will go through the kind of training that real- life Special Constables are given.

They will buddy up with serving officers and work shifts in units that include traffic, public order, custody, patrol, and burglary.

They will also be joining together to help police events such as a rowdy football match or keeping order on a big Saturday night shift.

Lee McMurray, the commissioning editor at Channel 4 Formats, said: “Wit, warmth and humour, combined with a great cast of familiar faces, will make for a fantastic Channel 4 series that will have broad appeal, while not shying away from exploring the serious and pressing issues facing modern policing.

“At the same time as giving us fascinating insights into contemporary Britain, Famous & Fighting Crime will also force the all-star cast to re-evaluate their opinions and beliefs, as well as reveal to viewers unexpected and surprising facets of themselves.”

The four-parter should highlight the job police do and perhaps gain them respect from viewers.

But our concern is this show could be a waste of precious police time. We can judge for ourselves whether it has that charge to answer when it airs later in the year.

It will make for a fantastic series while not shying away from serious issues
