It’s a fight for workers’ rights, pure and simple
THERE are 24 hours to save workers’ rights from a Tory Brexit.
Later today, MPs will vote on the Government’s EU Withdrawal Bill.
This Bill is not about whether or not we are leaving the EU – that is settled.
It is about the type of country we are afterwards. Taking back control did not mean giving extreme Brexiteers in Theresa May’s Government the power to rip up rights behind closed doors.
Nobody voted Leave to lose their right to equal pay and paid holiday, or to lose protection from unscrupulous employers. And yet that is exactly what the Withdrawal Bill could let happen. It would hand huge and unaccountable power to ministers.
Labour will not let Parliament surrender its power over your livelihoods to ministers unchallenged.
We will always stand up for workers. If Tory MPs were serious about it too, they would vote with us tonight.
