Calm before the Fionn

-

A BLANKET of snow creates this tranquil scene in Langdon Beck, in the Pennines.

But the icy weather brought chaos elsewhere, as schools and roads were closed across Scotland and the North.

And it looks set to continue as amber weather alerts have been issued for more snow and ice today and tomorrow. A separate wind warning has also been issued, for gusts of up to 80mph tonight, as Storm Fionn heads east towards the UK

Aidan McGivern, of the Met Office, said: “It’s a dry start to Wednesday night, but then increasingly wet and windy .... The north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland could see some significant snow.”
