Women earn £9k a year less than men in pay gap shame
THE gender pay gap is costing women an average £9,112 a year, a study claims.
Men working full-time earn an average £39,003 but women get £29,891.
The biggest gap is in London, where men trouser £53,521 and women £38,467 – a difference of £15,054. In Wales, where the pay gap is smallest, it is still £5,600.
The 15 million women working across Britain miss out on a total of £138billion a year. Men tend to work in higher-paid industries and reach higher positions, critics say. Dr Carole Easton of the Young Women’s Trust, which compiled the figures, said: “Real equality means supporting women into betterpaid sectors and tackling low pay in women-dominated sectors. “Helping parents share childcare and supporting women back into the workforce after taking time out would help too.”
