‘Dumpuary’ is perfect time for doc

- IANHYLAND on last night’s telly

With January being declared the peak month for divorce, BBC2’s documentary last night was certainly timely.

Millionaires’ Ex-Wives Club could have been a bit more juicy though.

That racy title conjured up images of glamorous ladies divulging tittletattle about the rich and famous over lunch on a yacht in St Tropez.

Instead it was just a camera crew following around a couple of women who have been through multimillion-pound divorce battles.

To be fair, one of the ladies, Lisa Tchenguiz, below, was married to ex-Radio 1 DJ Gary Davies back when people still said “Ooh, Gary Davies” rather than “Oh. Gary Davies.”

The other, Michelle Young, was no stranger to headlines having been involved in what was at the time the UK’s longest-running divorce case.

Their stories didn’t scream mustsee TV though. Far more interesting were the anecdotes supplied by the lawyers who’ve helped make London the divorce capital of the world.

Even then their contributions were general. Well, a Hollywood superstar is hardly going to employ a lawyer they have seen blabbing on the BBC.

I suppose this film did fulfil the “educate” part of the BBC’s remit.

According to one lawyer most people start planning their exit 12-18 months ahead.

So if you make it through Dumpuary unscathed don’t get too cocky.
