Frankie’s in dream World

- BY DAVID YATES

FRANKIE DETTORI insists “miracles can happen” as he prepares to ride Toast Of New York in the $16m Pegasus World Cup.

The Jamie Osbornetrained seven-year-old was beaten a nose in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita in November 2014 before embarking on a stallion career in Qatar.

But he returned to action with a victory at Lingfield last month and is a 20-1 shot for the world’s richest horserace, run at Gulfstream Park on Saturday week.

Dettori, on board for Toast Of New York’s comeback — also the horse’s debut for the jockey’s boss, Qatari Sheikh Joaan Al Thani — said: “It’s very hard to know what to expect. I’m in the dark.

“We know he’d have an excellent chance if he can run to the form he showed in the Breeders’ Cup, but it’s a question of what Father Time has done to his ability.

“However, I know Jamie is very happy with the horse and we’ll give it our best shot. Miracles can happen.”

Dettori, who is flying out to Miami earlier than planned, added: “I’m off. The weather is so cold here and I want to get acclimatised. I might as well go there now.“
