NEW BOY TOSUN: I WON’T LUK BACK
CENK TOSUN insists he can handle the pressure of replacing Romelu Lukaku in Everton’s attack. Everton boss Sam Allardyce hopes Tosun can be the No.9 they have so badly lacked since Lukaku (below) left in the summer. The new £27million signing from Besiktas is relaxed about carrying this weight of expectation and says he is ready for the challenge. “Of course, otherwise I would not be here,” said the German-born forward, whose childhood hero was Gabriel Batistuta. “I think I can do it. Lukaku did really well here. But I am hoping to score as many goals as I can and help the team.” Tosun, 26, believes he can succeed in the Premier League, despite managing just one Bundesliga appearance for his first club Eintracht Frankfurt as a teenager before moving to Turkey to launch his career. He bagged 41 goals in the last 18 months for Besiktas and Turkey and is confident he can hit the back of the net for the Toffees after a disappointing debut against Tottenham on Saturday (above, with Spurs’ Davinson Sanchez). He said: “When I was at Frankfurt, the players in front of me played for their international teams, so it was difficult to break through. “That’s why I went to Turkey and I have done quite well since. Saturday was disappointing for everyone, but I believe I can score goals for Everton.” years and 75 days when he became the youngest player to represent the senior England side after making his debut against Hungary at Old Trafford in May 2006
