£25M man insists ‘video goal’ can kickstart his Foxes career

- BY JAMES NURSEY

KELECHI IHEANACHO has vowed to prove he is worth the £25million Leicester spent on him by having a storming second half of the season.

The striker made the most of a rare Foxes start against League One Fleetwood in Tuesday’s FA Cup third-round replay, grabbing both goals in the 2-0 win. The second, the history-making first goal to be awarded thanks to VAR technology, took the 21-year-old’s tally to three since his big-money summer switch from Manchester City. The Nigeria forward has struggled for fitness and form, with Leicester officials and players understood to have been unimpressed by his attitude. He is one of their top earners and has pledged to justify his star billing and salary in the second half of the season after his fifth start for the club. Iheanacho said: “The first part of the season is gone and it is the second part now. I am happy to get the two goals and now hope to progress in the future. “It gives me more confidence to play well, get back in the team and help them achieve great things in the future. As a footballer, you need to keep working hard through the bad times and the good times. “If the chance comes, you take it. When I first arrived, I got a toe injury in the last pre-season game. That slowed things down a little bit and I am happy I am getting to come back. “I am feeling better, stronger and working hard in training every day to progress. I hope I will have a very successful and injury-free second part of the season. “I am fit now and confident. We have so many more games to come and I will keep working hard to help the team. “The fans have seen a bit of me, I hope to continue like that in the future and in the games to come.”
