Emily: I fear no end to my stalking hell
NEWSNIGHT star Emily Maitlis blasted a “systemic failure” in the justice system as she told of her dread that the man who stalked her will never stop.
The BBC journalist compared Edward Vines’ 20-year harassment campaign to “living with a chronic illness” after he was jailed again this week.
And she said repeated attempts to get him dealt with were “like bashing your head against a wall”.
She told Radio 5 live: “It’s not that it ever goes away. It’s not that I ever believe he will stop or the system will manage to prevent it.”
The Ministry of Justice apologised “unreservedly” to Emily after Vines, 47, was jailed for 45 months for continuing to breach a restraining order.
