Tillerson: ‘Trump scrapped trip to Britain due to Brexit’
DONALD Trump cancelled his visit to Britain because Theresa May needs to concentrate on Brexit, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has suggested.
Mr Trump said last week he axed his planned trip to London next month to open the new US Embassy because the location and cost of the HQ made it a “bad deal”.
But critics argued the President cancelled due to fears he would have been confronted by protesters. Mr Tillerson said yesterday: “Britain needs to focus on Brexit negotiations, which is really important to them. “And I think the President realises that’s where Prime Minister May really needs to focus her attention.” But Labour MP Chris Bryant said: “The idea [Mr Trump] cares about the UK’s national interests is laughable. “He has repeatedly insulted our country and our values.”
