‘Unsightly’ Rigby tribute is removed
A MEMORIAL to Fusilier Lee Rigby was removed for looking “unsightly”.
Islamic fanatics Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowalehe murdered the 25-year-old in 2013.
Flowers, flags, soft toys and photos were left to create an unofficial tribute at the scene in Woolwich, South East London.
But Greenwich Council said residents and a school were affected by it and Lee’s family were “sympathetic” to the removal.
The council said: “The unofficial memorial to Fusilier Lee Rigby was removed on 17 January.
“The number of items has expanded significantly. Many have been weathered and look unsightly.”
Some locals accused the council of “going against the will of the people”.
