Free coffee’s easy as 1234

STUDENTS blagged £1,600 worth of free coffee in a week from a broken university dispenser that had the default code 1234.

One student guessed it correctly and shared the trick with classmates.

The scam lasted until engineers checked the machine at Glasgow University’s library and changed the code.

The university said it was an internal matter, the police were not called and the vending machine “has now been fixed”.
