Price of happiness: £508 extra

THE key to happiness would be having an extra £508 a month, research has found.

Most people put their happiness level at six out of 10 – but 87% said it would be boosted by having more cash.

Priorities to splurge it on are a holiday abroad, weekends away and days out with the family. Putting aside money for a pension ranked only seventh on the list. A survey of 2,000 adults also revealed fretting about finances prevents 68% of us from achieving true happiness.

Michelle Pearce, of investment service Wealthify, said: “You don’t need piles of money to plan a happier future. Start with small sums and build up regular deposits.”
