TRAGIC Labour politician Carl Sargeant’s son has vowed to make him proud as he contests his old seat.

Jack Sargeant, 23, is running for office as the party’s candidate in a Welsh Assembly by-election next month.

The constituency of Alyn and Deeside has been vacant since Carl, 49, apparently took his own life in November.

Jack, who grew up canvassing with Carl, said: “A lot of people say, ‘Your Dad would be so proud’ and I’d agree. I think he would be happy that we are continuing the work for the people he loved so much.” Jack said mum Bernie and sister Lucy were “very happy” he was standing in the February 6 poll.

And he said he wanted “justice” over events leading to his dad’s death at the height of the sex harassment scandal. The way Labour handled complaints is under investigation.
