Drinks victory
ASDA and Aldi joining Waitrose in banning sales of energy drinks to young people is a huge boost for the Daily Mirror and Jamie Oliver campaign.
Cans and bottles packing strong caffeine and sugar punches need to be consumed responsibly by adults – let alone the young – but, as with alcohol and tobacco, restricting them to the young is sensible.
Hopefully other chains and individual shops will follow voluntarily. But we warn the foot-draggers that if they put a few pennies’ profit before the wellbeing of future generations there’s no shortage of MPs ready to do their duty.
