WORKERS renovating Buckingham Palace unearth vintage cigarette packs and a 130-year-old newspaper cutting as they take up floorboards. A video posted by the Royal Family yesterday showed cables being removed as the audience room is re-wired as part of the £369million overhaul. The discovery included fragments of a November 27, 1889, edition of the Evening Standard and empty packs of Woodbine, Player’s Navy Cut and Piccadilly cigarettes. The taxpayer-funded revamp will take 10 years and programme director Barbara Welch said: “This building will be much more accessible and much more efficient to run.”
