Prince’s letter of pride and relief
ONE of the posties handed me an impressive-looking envelope. My heart missed a beat. It was a handwritten letter from Red Dragon, the naval nickname for HRH The Prince of Wales!
Inside, the seven pages told me of his pride and relief that an old shipmate was looking after his soldiers – the Welsh Guardsmen and Parachute Regiment.
We had served together in early 1975, in HMS Hermes. I could sense that he wished he could have been with us.
Typical of his generosity and thoughtfulness, the Prince of Wales added that if there was some small piece of equipment that I needed, I was to let him know immediately.
