SCHINDLER LISTS BEST REASONS FOR SLEEP
CHRISTOPHER SCHINDLER says Huddersfield’s relegation worries will not keep him awake at night – despite a trying run-in.
The German centre-back believes that thinking too much about the drop will only damage his side’s chances of survival.
Huddersfield need to pick up points quickly after just three from a five-match winless league run.
And defeat at third-frombottom Stoke today would drag David Wagner’s side even closer to trouble.
New Stoke manager Paul Lambert has admitted to suffering sleepless nights since his appointment on Monday, but Schindler (above) has been through all of that after his stressful spell at 1860 Munich.
The defender was thrust into the captain’s role during a turbulent spell three seasons ago in 2015 as the fallen German giants narrowly avoided dropping into the third-tier for the first time in their history.
They went through three managers, with Schindler given the armband after it was taken away from teammate Julian Weigl for publicly criticising 1860 during a late-night drinking session.
It is why he is staying calm – even though Huddersfield have to face Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in the final month of the season. He said: “We did not stay strong at 1860. I was not able to stay strong personally. I reached the point where the pressure got too much.
“I could not sleep well, I allowed it to make a difference to my private life.
“It was a tough time but I can also use that experience, maybe tell a few lads in the team about it. Show them that things could be worse.”
And Schindler insists he is not sweating about Huddersfield’s tough finish to the season.
He added: “Can we change the fixtures? No, we can’t. So, we have to have the right mindset.
“We have to be positive. It is tough. Tell me an easy fixture?
“Tell me who we can beat in the Premier League easily?
“No one, especially for us. Can we beat Arsenal at home? Why not?”
