PULIS TELLS BORO CHIEF: I WON’T SPEND SINGLE PENNY

- BY JASON MELLOR

TONY PULIS insists he doesn’t want any of Steve Gibson’s money this month.

Middlesbrough have raked-in £4million from midfielder Adam Forshaw’s move to Leeds, and chairman Gibson has told Pulis funds are available to breathe fresh life into the Teessiders’ promotion bid.

But, after inheriting a squad he reckons is top heavy on numbers, boss Pulis is more interested in outgoings than incomings.

Boro travel to QPR looking to muscle their way back into the Championship play-off places, and the manager (above) said: “I don’t want to spend any of Steve’s money this window.

“The way he backed the football club in the summer (with £26m) is more than enough money to spend in one season.

“If we can get a few more out, then I might ask him for a couple of loans.

“But I feel I have a responsibility to not just go in and say, ‘I want this and I want that’.” Pulis will allow Fabio da Silva to return to Brazil, if an acceptable bid comes in, and young midfielder Lewis Baker will make an early return to parent-club Chelsea.

Bids will be considered for Adam Clayton, Ashley Fletcher and Patrick Bamford.

Pulis added: “Steve has been a very loyal chairman to his managers, in respect of all the money he’s spent.

“I just want to give him the grace of looking at the group before deciding what we should do to move on.”
