MOYES IS SPURRED ON

-

DAVID MOYES wants West Ham to be more like Tottenham when it comes to buying new players.

Hammers co-owner David Sullivan (left) loves a deal – and hit the jackpot when he landed Dimitri Payet for just £10.7million in 2015.

But there had been far more misses than hits and Moyes prefers to bring in young players who already know the British game and be allowed time to bed them in, as he did at Everton.

Ahead of today’s visit of Bournemouth, he said: “The owners are experienced, they know what works for them.

“But I’ve also seen what it should look like – when you buy Tim Cahill when he’s not ready, when you get Mikel Arteta or Joleon Lescott, Leighton Baines or Phil Jagielka, when you take Seamus Coleman from Cork.

“None of them went into the team right away.

“Look at Tottenham, getting Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier in the team.

“I don’t think when Tottenham signed Dele Alli everyone went, ‘What a signing’. Sometimes you need to see the bigger picture.”
