The letter from the widow who misses her husband at Christmas struck a chord with me (Dear Coleen, Dec 8).
My husband died 22 years ago around the Christmas holidays, so it’s always a very sad time for me, too. I now go away every year with a friend who’s also alone at Christmas.
I feel that if I’m away my daughters can spend time with their in-laws and we now make New Year’s Day our Christmas and open our presents to each other.
I hope this lady can find the peace that I’ve found and that this year is easier for her. Mary, Cambridge
