Soldier’s fatal fall from flat

A SOLDIER plunged to his death from the window of a third-floor flat as he tried to catch a dropped phone.

Lance Corporal Nicholas Githaiga, 32, was on the line to a pal and smoking before his death in June last year, an inquest heard.

The dad-of-two served with the Royal, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Versmold, Germany.

Coroner Julian Morris told the hearing in Southwark, Central London: “He died of head and chest injuries.” Verdict: Accident.
