Old Facebook pictures help doctors rebuild rider’s face
SURGEONS have used old Facebook photos to help reconstruct the face of a woman who was trampled by a horse.
Dr Elizabeth Calton, 38, needed 41 screws and 11 plates after suffering horrific injuries while out riding.
She said: “I had panda-eye bruising and my face was so swollen I was hardly recognisable.
“To be looking back to how I was is amazing.” The junior doctor SURGERY Elizabeth Calton was trampled in October when her horse was spooked by a noise. She had fractured cheek bones, eye sockets, nose and upper jaw, plus nine broken ribs. Elizabeth said: “The impact crushed the middle of my face backwards.” Doctors at St George’s Hospital in Tooting, South London, spent 10 hours reproducing her original bone structure, guided by the photos. Dr Nick Hyde, who led the operation, said: “It was a real team effort.”
