GARETH SOUTHGATE will today discover England’s opponents in the new UEFA Nations League.

And they have got a 25 per cent chance of getting world champions Germany.

The revolution­ary set-up has been brought in to try to scrap meaningles­s friendlies and England are likely to end up facing a better class of opponent.

England boss Southgate (above) and new Wales manager Ryan Giggs are in Lausanne, Switzerlan­d for the draw for fixtures which will replace the traditiona­l friendlies in the autumn.

England are in the top of four divisions made up of 55 countries which will have promotion and relegation. The Three Lions will be in a group of three teams which will play each other home and away in September and October.

They will face one of either Germany, Portugal, Belgium or Spain – and then one of Poland, Iceland, Croatia or Holland. They cannot play France, Switzerlan­d or Italy.

League A will be split into four groups of three with the group winners contesting the semi-finals, third-place match and final in June 2019.

The four group wooden spoonists will be relegated to League B for the 2020 tournament.

Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland are in League B and could all be drawn in the same group. Scotland are in League C.
