PIERS Morgan has clinched the first international TV interview with his pal Donald Trump since he took office.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 52, will meet the US president at the World Economic Forum in Davos to quiz him on his first year in office.

ITV bosses are thrilled by the scoop, to be recorded today, and Morgan thinks it could be the biggest interview of his career. A source said: “He’s ecstatic. He knows this is a major coup.”

The pair became pals a decade ago, while Morgan was at US news channel CNN and won the US’s Celebrity Apprentice. Trump, who fronted FORUM Donald Trump the reality show, apparently still calls him “Champ”. Morgan is viewed as the president’s biggest British cheerleader and last interviewed him in May 2016, while he was on the campaign trail. When ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage claimed he was best friends with Trump a year ago, Morgan hit back: “Trump only follows one Brit on Twitter and it ain’t Farage, it’s Morgan.”

And Trump, 71, sent Morgan a note of congratulations after he got his ITV breakfast role.

Morgan has said: “Trump is a good friend. I have spoken to him every three or four weeks for years. When I have had tough times, he has called me.”

ITV will screen the interview over the weekend.
