Fashion world forgets about older women

- BY RUKI SAYID Consumer Editor

WOMEN over 50 feel that the fashion industry only offers them frumpy clothes, a study reveals.

Two-thirds of 53 to 72-year-olds believe designers do not understand their sense of style.

Nine in 10 feel written off by 50 and the same number refuse to dress in neutral hues just because they are a certain age.

J Walter Thompson marketing, which did the poll, urged the industry to “ditch the tired stereotype”.

Figures show women of 50 to 64 spend £21.50 a week on clothes against £16.60 for under-30s.

Hope Fashion founder Nayna McIntosh added: “Women over 50 have more money and time but struggle to find a brand that speaks to them.”
