KEVIN’S RIGHT ON ATTLEE

Thank you to Kevin Maguire for pointing out that Clement Attlee is arguably the greatest Prime Minister this country has ever had (Mirror, Jan 22).

Attlee presided over this country at a time of real austerity and not only did his government pull us through, it set up the great NHS. The measures being put in place today under the mask of austerity are simply the means to make the rich even richer.

I would not wish to deny the great part Churchill played in our victory in the Second World War, but Attlee, no spin doctor, put his shoulder to the wheel and worked his heart out for the sake of our nation.
