Poor quality control with ‘boring’ Sam

-

IT’S worrying that the more excuses Sam Allardyce makes, the more he appears to misread the mood and expectation at Goodison.

After the 4-0 trouncing by Spurs, when the Blues failed to get a shot on target for the third time in five games, Big Sam (above) said: “I should have got back to being a bit more boring and a bit less adventurous.”

In any year that would be an unacceptable thing for an Everton manager to say, but, in a calendar year when more than £230million has been spent on new faces, it was tempting a revolt.

When his side were rightly booed off the park after a dismal draw with West Brom on Saturday, he compared the defending to that of an Under-11 side – yet he was brought in almost two months ago to sort that specific problem out.

It’s not just the defending or the results that need to pick up, it’s the quality of the football. Or this is heading for a summer divorce and Allardyce’s epitaph, reading “decent for a struggling side, but struggled to make a big side decent”.
