Coleman: I’ll be there for Macca
SEAMUS COLEMAN has assured team-mate James McCarthy he will return following his double leg-break and vowed to help his recovery.
The Everton defender, himself the victim of a double leg fracture 10 months ago, stepped up his own fightback this week with an hour-long run-out for the under-23s.
McCarthy, 27, suffered a horrific injury last Saturday in a clash with West Brom’s Salomon Rondon at Goodison Park and has since undergone surgery.
Coleman, 29, watched from the stands as McCarthy suffered his devastating injury and said he was now determined to help his fellow Republic of Ireland international on the long road to recovery.
“I was just devastated for my best friend in football,” Coleman said.
“It’s a big shock for him and a big shock for his family.
“I’ve seen him and he’ll be back, there’s no doubt about that.
“I’ll be there for him. If I can play as best as I can, then he can see me on a Saturday on Match of the Day setting up goals, scoring goals – that’s the perfect motivation for him.”
