BLADE RUNNER 2049

-

Cert 15

Digital Monday, disc February 5 This superlative cerebral sci-fi sequel turned out to be a huge financial flop to match that of Ridley Scott’s original 1982 masterpiece. Director Dennis Villeneuve spent £123million to recoup a mere £186m – a disastrous return when cinemas keep about 50% of the box office. Set in a dystopian future, it sees Ryan Gosling playing an android cop looking for Harrison Ford’s long disappeared Blade Runner. It’s been deservedly nominated for five Oscars, including for its astonishing production design and superlative visual effects, but has been sadly and mistakenly overlooked in the major categories of best film and director.
