World Cup campsite with chipboard loos and water from well charges £63-a-night
WITH its toilet cubicle made from chipboard and water from a well, this campsite is hardly the lap of luxury.
But at £63 a night for a two-man tent, it may be the cheapest option for England supporters attending the World Cup in Russia.
Facilities at Camping for Tent’s site include a cannon and a Red Army field oven. But if fans want a vegetarian breakfast, they will have to fork out an extra £13 each.
The pop-up site outside Petrovo village is just nine miles from Kaliningrad stadium, where England play Belgium in their final Group G match on June 28.
It is currently available on Booking. com at £63 for two people for that night.
Yet in Kaliningrad, one guesthouse was reportedly charging £3,125 for a three-person “superior apartment” – a 18,382% price hike. A triple room at Meridian Guesthouse is usually £17. On Airbnb, a one-bed flat was more than £1,000 on the night of the game, which could decide if England progress to the Round of 16. Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism has already named and shamed 41 hotels for hiking rates. Agency spokesman Nikolay Gulyaev said: “We’ve revealed price gouging, specifically for dates of the championship. “We registered similar cases during the recent FIFA Confederations Cup. We were able to convince hotels to scale down prices. However, the temptation remains high.”
