The phenomenon started in May 2016 when Wigan super fan Sean Kennedy celebrated Grigg’s promotion-sealing 28 goals with a version of 1990’s dance classic ‘Freed From Desire’ by Gala from his bedroom. He changed the words from “freed from desire, mind and senses purified” to the famous battle cry for the Northern Ireland international. The clip sent the original song to No.7 in the iTunes UK chart while the chant has taken over stadiums around Europe. For his part in the viral sensation, Kennedy was handed a free season ticket at the DW Stadium. Even Eric Cantona got wrapped in the euphoria (above) posting a YouTube video of himself singing the song.
