What is brain cancer?
It is a tumour caused by cells multiplying abnormally.
What are the symptoms?
Severe headaches, seizures, nausea, memory loss or personality changes, paralysis on one side of the body, sight or speech issues.
Can anyone get it?
Yes. It can strike children and adults. Labour’s Tessa Jowell, 70, was diagnosed last May.
What causes brain cancer?
Doctors don’t know for sure, but risk factors include age, previous cancers, radiation, family history, HIV and AIDS.
How is it treated?
Treatments include steroids, surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
What are survival rates?
According to Cancer Research UK, around 15 of every 100 sufferers will survive for five years or more after diagnosis.
