Emotional tribute to Woollacott

- BY DAVID YATES

KAYLEY WOOLLACOTT yesterday paid tribute to “a much-loved husband, son, brother and friend” as stable star Beer Goggles makes an emotion-charged return to action at Cheltenham today.

Devon handler Richard Woollacott (below) — whose death at 40 was announced on Tuesday — trained the sevenyear-old to a 40-1 victory in last month’s Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury. And Kayley, who will saddle Beer Goggles in the Cleeve Hurdle, revealed a fundraising page, benefiting Mind, the Injured Jockeys Fund and the Devon Air Ambulance, has been set up.

“Beer Goggles will run in memory of Richard,” she said.

“Sadly, he lost his life to mental illness after battling with it for many years.”

A minute’s silence will be held prior to the race.
