Bank workers get six weeks’ pay in £30m bonus scheme
ALMOST 8,000 bank workers at the TSB will get a windfall worth six weeks’ salary as they share a £30million bonus.
The average employee will get an extra £3,600 in their pay packet, while a typical cashier will get £2,600.
The total payout is £2million more than for 2016 and takes the amount given by the bank in bonuses since 2015 to £84million. Paul Pester, the boss of TSB, which sponsors the Daily Mirror’s Pride of Britain Awards, has warned that the big banks have tightened their “stranglehold” on the current account market. Mr Pester said: “Competition has gone backwards. The big five banks have 85% of all current accounts and 90% of business banking.” TSB profits dropped by 10.6% to £162.7million last year. Mr Pester’s total pay package fell from £3.7million to £1.7million,
