Tragic Jean snubbed by 8 providers
JEAN Smurthwaite was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s aged 67 and after a fall in 2016, daughter Tracey Morton decided she needed a nursing home.
But eight sites in Yorkshire refused Jean, left, as she was incontinent. She died aged 71 without having found one. “It felt like they only wanted a certain extent of dementia,” said Tracey.
Jeanette Nash, 85, of Bristol, died last month after 10 homes refused her. Daughter-in-law Anne said: “[They said] they couldn’t accept someone with such advanced dementia.”
