Sock-in-mouth teacher banned from classroom

-

A TEACHER accused of putting a sock in a pupil’s mouth to keep him quiet has been banned from the classroom indefinitely.

Martin Myers, 47, was also found to have helped pupils cheat on crucial SATs exams.

A National College of Teaching and Leader- ship panel heard Myers admitted an “incident with a sock”. But he claimed he said “put a sock in it” before lobbing one in the lad’s direction at Ecton Village Primary, Northampton.

Myers denied any wrongdoing but the panel was satisfied he gave test answers and altered papers, and believed pupils’ accounts of the sock incident. He cannot bid for the classroom ban to be lifted until 2023.

Panel head Dawn Dandy said: “Maladministration of SATs would seriously undermine confidence in the assessment system.”
