David Wagner’s side have not won in their last eight Premier League games, their slide suggesting they are destined for the drop. But Smith (above) said: “We were written off all last season and that worked out well. The bookmakers have probably said we were favourites to go down from the beginning, but that’s totally irrelevant to us. “It was irrelevant to us last season and it is the same this time around. “If we stick together we’ll be OK. We’ve proved people wrong before and we can do it again. People can write us off all day long but if we stick together we can do it.”
