EAT TOMATOES
The bright colour is due to a powerful compound called lycopene which is a useful component of a healthy diet. Your body will best absorb the lycopene if you eat the tomatoes cooked or with healthy fat-rich foods like avocado, olive oil or nuts.
One medium tomato or seven cherry tomatoes will count for one of the recommended five fruit and veg portions we should all eat every day.
They’re packed with immune-boosting vitamins A and C.
Tomatoes are high in fibre as well as potassium and niacin, which are known to lower cholesterol. Low cholesterol is good for your heart.
They’re not just for salads – tomatoes are incredibly versatile, making great sauce bases for pasta dishes, curries, soups and pizza toppings too.
