Carillion workers are being axed by email, a union claims. The GMB says accountant PwC, which is handling the firm’s liquidation, were treating staff with “utter contempt” after another 452 were made redundant.
Rehana Azam, GMB national secretary, said: “It’s not just that so many are being made redundant – it’s the callous way PwC is going about it which is so outrageous. Some people received emails on Saturday telling them not to bother turning up for work on Monday. Others had less than a day’s notice.”
Yesterday’s job losses follow 377 redundancies on Friday but more than 1,000 jobs have been saved after transferring to new employers.
