...AND REFS ‘NOT USING VAR ON SLY’
REFEREES chiefs have been forced to deny they are using VAR on the sly.
They branded Jon Moss (above) “misguided” for appearing to suggest otherwise to millions of TV viewers on Sunday. It comes after Moss appeared to ask fourth official Martin Atkinson
for help using TV footage before giving Tottenham’s first penalty against Liverpool at Anfield.
Video assistance is not allowed in the Premier League. It is only being trialled in the FA Cup.
Moss’s move, caught on camera, had referees’ body the Professional Game Match Officials Limited insisting that video assistance was not used.
A statement said: “Atkinson did not view a TV monitor and did not relay any information to on-field officials. Moss acknowledges referencing ‘TV’ was misguided. Atkinson did not reply.”
