In response to Carol Flint of Bristol (Madeuthink, Feb 5), if it wasn’t for Churchill and our brave men and women of the Armed Forces during the Second World War you wouldn’t even have had the right to have written in to the Daily Mirror. To live in the present we learn from the past.

Am I the only one wondering what all the fuss is regarding the suggestion to lower the voting age from 18 to 16?

The fact is, 16-yearolds can go to work, pay taxes and fight for their country. Maybe the real reason that the Conservati­ves are so against such plans is because they know these young people are unlikely to vote for them.

I’m appalled that Thomas Cook has put charges on reserving sunbeds (Mirror, Jan 29). Do I have to forfeit my day in the sun to well off people who only settle on their beds for two or three hours a day. I can’t see this working.

So, there are to be no more walk-on girls in darts or F1. It doesn’t bother me either way, but when will rugby and certain football clubs stop using cheerleade­rs? It makes me cringe to watch them.
